https://www.whsmith.co.uk/products/france-in-the-second-world-war-collaboration-resistance-holocaust-empire/chris-millington/paperback/9781350094970.html France in the Second World War: Collaboration, Resistance, Holocaust, Empire Books/Other Non Fiction Books/History, Religion & Humanities/Regional & National History/European History 9781350094970 InStock NewCondition GBP 20.69 22.99 Chris Millington <span itemprop="description" class="longDescription-value"> During 1940-1944, the citizens of France and its Empire endured the 'dark years' of invasion, persecution and foreign occupation. Thousands of men, women and children suffered arrest, deportation and death as the French Vichy regime worked to secure a place for France in Hitler's New Order. France in the Second World War is a wide-ranging yet succinct introduction to the French experience of the Second World War and its aftermath. It examines the fall of France in 1940 and the founding of the Vichy regime, as well as collaboration, resistance, everyday life, the Holocaust, the Liberation and the echoes of the period in contemporary France. Chris Millington addresses the chief topics in chapters that synthesizes the key points of the history and the historiography. The French Empire is carefully integrated throughout, illustrating the global impact of events on mainland France. In addition, Millington provides a helpful glossary of terms, personalities and movements from the period and an annotated bibliography of English-language sources to guide students to the most relevant works in the area. France in the Second World War provides a comprehensive introduction to the history and historiography of France and its Empire during their darkest hours. 1 Maps </span> <div class="delivery"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-block-title">Delivery Options</h3> <div class="delivery-block delivery-method-wrap"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-title">Home Delivery</h3> <ul class="delivery-method-list"> <li class="delivery-method"> <div class="delivery-info"> <span class="delivery-name">Standard Delivery</span> <span class="delivery-description">Delivered within 2-4 working days</span> </div> <div class="delivery-price"> <span class="delivery-price-value"> Free </span> <ul class="delivery-promotion"> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> <li class="delivery-callout"> Free Standard Delivery Available When You Spend £20 or More </li> </ul> </div> </li> <li class="delivery-method"> <div class="delivery-info"> <span class="delivery-name">Express Delivery</span> <span class="delivery-description">Delivered next working day (Ordered before 3pm, Mon-Fri)</span> </div> <div class="delivery-price"> <span class="delivery-price-value"> £4.99 </span> <ul class="delivery-promotion"> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> </ul> </div> </li> </ul> </div> <div class="delivery-block"> <div class="delivery-method-wrap"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-title">Store Delivery</h3> <ul class="delivery-method-list"> <li class="delivery-method"> <div class="delivery-info"> <span class="delivery-name">Click &amp; Collect Next Working Day</span> <span class="delivery-description">Delivered to store before 5pm next working day (order by 12 noon Mon-Thurs)</span> </div> <div class="delivery-price"> <span class="delivery-price-value"> Free </span> </div> </li> </ul> </div> <div class="delivery-method-wrap"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-title">Free Returns</h3> <div class="delivery-method"> <div class="content-asset"> We hope you are delighted with everything you buy from us. In this study, Donnelly distinguishes between "having a right" and "being right" and elaborates the distinction with great subtlety to show that rights have to be understood as action and not as a possession. This is done with such clarity and good sense that he is able to cast light on all aspects of the often confusing discussions of the natures and usages of "right". He illuminates an astonishing range of issues, from the limitations of Thomist and utilitarian conceptions of right to the confusions of many present-day defenders of rights, both in the West and the Third World. As importantly, Donnelly is centrally concerned with the human aspect of "human rights". He is thus able to rest his discussion of rights on a plausible philosophical anthropology as well as an appreciation of an historical dimension to human rights, and, at the end of his book, is able to open the door towards potential new developments in the discussion of human rights. Down the path he points us lies a reconciliation of the notion of individual rights with that of political community. This title will be of great interest to students of politics and philosophy. </span> <div class="delivery"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-block-title">Delivery Options</h3> <div class="delivery-block delivery-method-wrap"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-title">Home Delivery</h3> <ul class="delivery-method-list"> <li class="delivery-method"> <div class="delivery-info"> <span class="delivery-name">Standard Delivery</span> <span class="delivery-description">Delivered within 2-4 working days</span> </div> <div class="delivery-price"> <span class="delivery-price-value"> Free </span> <ul class="delivery-promotion"> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> <li class="delivery-callout"> Free Standard Delivery Available When You Spend £20 or More </li> </ul> </div> </li> <li class="delivery-method"> <div class="delivery-info"> <span class="delivery-name">Express Delivery</span> <span class="delivery-description">Delivered next working day (Ordered before 3pm, Mon-Fri)</span> </div> <div class="delivery-price"> <span class="delivery-price-value"> £4.99 </span> <ul class="delivery-promotion"> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> </ul> </div> </li> </ul> </div> <div class="delivery-block"> <div class="delivery-method-wrap"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-title">Store Delivery</h3> <ul class="delivery-method-list"> <li class="delivery-method"> <div class="delivery-info"> <span class="delivery-name">Click &amp; Collect Next Working Day</span> <span class="delivery-description">Delivered to store before 5pm next working day (order by 12 noon Mon-Thurs)</span> </div> <div class="delivery-price"> <span class="delivery-price-value"> Free </span> </div> </li> </ul> </div> <div class="delivery-method-wrap"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-title">Free Returns</h3> <div class="delivery-method"> <div class="content-asset"> We hope you are delighted with everything you buy from us. Skinner Award, given by the Association of Africanist Anthropology Examines why African care workers feel politically excluded from the United States Care for America's growing elderly population is increasingly provided by migrants, and the demand for health care labor is only expected to grow. Because of this health care crunch and the low barriers to entry, new African immigrants have adopted elder care as a niche employment sector, funneling their friends and relatives into this occupation. However, elder care puts care workers into racialized, gendered, and age hierarchies, making it difficult for them to achieve social and economic mobility. In The New American Servitude, Coe demonstrates how these workers often struggle to find a sense of political and social belonging. They are regularly subjected to racial insults and demonstrations of power-and effectively turned into servants-at the hands of other members of the care worker network, including clients and their relatives, agency staff, and even other care workers. Low pay, a lack of benefits, and a lack of stable employment, combined with a lack of appreciation for their efforts, often alienate them, so that many come to believe that they cannot lead valuable lives in the United States. While jobs are a means of acculturating new immigrants, African care workers don't tend to become involved or politically active. Many plan to leave rather than putting down roots in the US. Offering revealing insights into the dark side of a burgeoning economy, The New American Servitude carries serious implications for the future of labor and justice in the care work industry. 2 black and white illustrations </span> <div class="delivery"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-block-title">Delivery Options</h3> <div class="delivery-block delivery-method-wrap"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-title">Home Delivery</h3> <ul class="delivery-method-list"> <li class="delivery-method"> <div class="delivery-info"> <span class="delivery-name">Standard Delivery</span> <span class="delivery-description">Delivered within 2-4 working days</span> </div> <div class="delivery-price"> <span class="delivery-price-value"> Free </span> <ul class="delivery-promotion"> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> <li class="delivery-callout"> Free Standard Delivery Available When You Spend £20 or More </li> </ul> </div> </li> <li class="delivery-method"> <div class="delivery-info"> <span class="delivery-name">Express Delivery</span> <span class="delivery-description">Delivered next working day (Ordered before 3pm, Mon-Fri)</span> </div> <div class="delivery-price"> <span class="delivery-price-value"> £4.99 </span> <ul class="delivery-promotion"> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> </ul> </div> </li> </ul> </div> <div class="delivery-block"> <div class="delivery-method-wrap"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-title">Store Delivery</h3> <ul class="delivery-method-list"> <li class="delivery-method"> <div class="delivery-info"> <span class="delivery-name">Click &amp; Collect Next Working Day</span> <span class="delivery-description">Delivered to store before 5pm next working day (order by 12 noon Mon-Thurs)</span> </div> <div class="delivery-price"> <span class="delivery-price-value"> Free </span> </div> </li> </ul> </div> <div class="delivery-method-wrap"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-title">Free Returns</h3> <div class="delivery-method"> <div class="content-asset"> We hope you are delighted with everything you buy from us. The premise is simple: if you could go back in time and talk with yourself when you began your studies, what advice would you give? Isn't hindsight a bonus? If only I knew then what I know now! The Nordic PhD: Surviving and Succeeding follows editions focused on study in Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia, the U.K., U.S., and South Africa. What sets The Nordic PhD: Surviving and Succeeding apart from many others on the market is its down-to-earth and practical approach. Furthermore, its originality also lies in the fact that it is grounded in the context of doctoral studies in the Nordic countries. 1 Illustrations, unspecified </span> <div class="delivery"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-block-title">Delivery Options</h3> <div class="delivery-block delivery-method-wrap"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-title">Home Delivery</h3> <ul class="delivery-method-list"> <li class="delivery-method"> <div class="delivery-info"> <span class="delivery-name">Standard Delivery</span> <span class="delivery-description">Delivered within 2-4 working days</span> </div> <div class="delivery-price"> <span class="delivery-price-value"> Free </span> <ul class="delivery-promotion"> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> <li class="delivery-callout"> Free Standard Delivery Available When You Spend £20 or More </li> </ul> </div> </li> <li class="delivery-method"> <div class="delivery-info"> <span class="delivery-name">Express Delivery</span> <span class="delivery-description">Delivered next working day (Ordered before 3pm, Mon-Fri)</span> </div> <div class="delivery-price"> <span class="delivery-price-value"> £4.99 </span> <ul class="delivery-promotion"> <li class="delivery-callout"> </li> </ul> </div> </li> </ul> </div> <div class="delivery-block"> <div class="delivery-method-wrap"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-title">Store Delivery</h3> <ul class="delivery-method-list"> <li class="delivery-method"> <div class="delivery-info"> <span class="delivery-name">Click &amp; Collect Next Working Day</span> <span class="delivery-description">Delivered to store before 5pm next working day (order by 12 noon Mon-Thurs)</span> </div> <div class="delivery-price"> <span class="delivery-price-value"> Free </span> </div> </li> </ul> </div> <div class="delivery-method-wrap"> <h3 class="h3 delivery-title">Free Returns</h3> <div class="delivery-method"> <div class="content-asset"> We hope you are delighted with everything you buy from us.
